Do I really need to hire a car?
Well, quite frankly...................YES
We understand that car hire is a large part of your holiday budget, however we can assure you that it makes perfect sense to do so.
There is no taxi service based in Vinci and the buses, such as they are, run infrequently.
A hire car allows you easy access to the railway station in Empoli, that can take you to Pisa, Florence and Sienna and would also allow you to visit other places that are more difficult to get to by train, such as Pistoia, Lucca and the various parts of the Chianti region for example.
Just getting your food purchases,(including a six pack of bottled water), back up from Vinci village on foot would be a difficult excursion.
So once again, if you want our opinion, YES car hire is essential.
